What a year we have had!
Whilst the weather may not quite reflect the quintessential English Christmas card which we had hoped and seemed likely some weeks ago, I write this message having reached the end of a long and happy term.
The last few weeks have seen us be able to enjoy the countdown to Christmas which we had envisaged, without restriction, for the first time in some while! There has been carol singing, musical performances, Christmas jumpers, Christmas hats, Christmas card competitions, awards assemblies, Christmas lunch, charity events, Father Christmas himself and, in the midst of all this, the continuation of teaching and learning.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a happy and peaceful Christmas, and hope 2023 brings us all in the Cameron Vale family more amazing experiences!

Chelsea Pensioners attend Remembrance Assembly
|
|
It was our honour to have three Chelsea Pensioners as special guests at our Cameron Vale School Remembrance Assembly.
IP Dewi Treharne, IP Harry Puttick BEM and IP Peter Birch (whose birthday it is today), explained who the Chelsea Pensioners are, what they do, and why it is so vital for younger generations to 'take up the light' and Remember.
|
|
They answered the children's questions, and Dewi read 'In Flanders Fields' written by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae in 1915. This poem mentions the red poppies that grew over the graves of fallen soldiers resulted, and the remembrance poppy has become a memorial symbol for soldiers who have died in conflict.
Thank you again, to The Royal Hospital Chelsea, the home of the Chelsea Pensioners, for attending our Assembly.

Parents Painting Evening - 13th October
|
|
Friends of Cameron Vale hosted a very special 'Painting' social evening in school where parents got the opportunity to enjoy an evening of painting and wine.
They received step-by-step guidance from a local artist, over a glass of wine, and produced some beautiful paintings.
Due to popular demand, FoCV will be organising another 'Paint and Sip' evening - so watch this space!

Class 6 - building gingerbread houses

Class 6 explored banking, architecture and construction as they designed, created and decorated their own gingerbread houses!

Class 6 were investigating the structure of the heart, we dissected a lamb's heart to identify the four different chambers - left ventricle, right ventricle, left atrium and right atrium and the values.
We also used straws to show where the pulmonary vein, pulmonary artery, aorta and vena cava would enter and exit the heart. We also found the septum and discussed the importance of this to divide the two sides of the heart and prevent the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood from mixing.

Class 3 & 4 - Science museum trip
|
|
Class 3&4 enjoyed a day out at the Science Museum.
They watched a thought-provoking 'Flash, Bang, Wallop' show then spread out across seven different zones in the Wonderlab.
The day was filled with plenty of opportunities to interact with real scientific phenomena. The children saw lightning strike before their eyes, played with forces on giant slides and travel through space under a canopy of stars.

Class 3 & 4 - Gallery Visit
|
|
Class 3 and 4 visited the Jonathan Cooper Gallery for Art lesson
They are currently holding an exhibition called ‘A Festival of Colour’. This fits in nicely with what they children have been learning about colour this term. The children spent time looking around the gallery looking at the paintings and discussing the use of colour in each painting.

Class 3 children had fun learning a bit more about the digestive system.
Each child got a plastic cup to represent the mouth, and a pair of scissors to represent teeth. They then had a banana and some crackers (food) and a small cup of water to represent saliva, and explored what happens to food when you eat it - from start to finish!

Class 3 demonstrated their construction skills in making a Viking longboat
Following on from recent visit by a real life Viking (!) Class 3 decided to try their hands at building their very own longship, similar to the ones the Viking took into battle.
The children made the skeleton of the ship, then fashioned the outer skin and even made a scary dragon figurehead.

Reception Visits Fire Station
|
|
Reception adventured to the Chelsea Fire Station earlier this term, they got to use the fire hose, get into the fire truck and play the siren. The firefighters explained what they do when there is a fire, and even showed us how to come down the fire pole!
The children all really enjoyed themselves and are already planning a return visit.
