A Wonderful Week in Wonderland
Cameron Vale and Chelsea Nursery Pupils Celebrating Reading
Young bookworms at Cameron Vale School and The Chelsea Nursery have celebrated the magical world of storytelling and reading, with an enchanting week of educational activities.
There were white rabbits and mad hatters galore at the Chelsea-based school as children stepped into a fairy-tale wonderland and dressed up as their favourite storybook characters. Cameron Vale’s new Headmistress Miss Bridget Saul, also got into the spirit of things, leading the book week as The Queen of Hearts.
Pupils participated in entertaining, fun-filled activities such as an adventure story writing competition, the sharing of book reviews and a workshop led by children’s author Kirsty Riddiford.
Following one of her first major events at the school, Headmistress Bridget Saul commented: “It is inspiring to witness how passionate our children are about books and reading. They had a thoroughly enjoyable week and it was lovely to see how each pupil represented their favourite characters, which resulted in a variety of truly creative costumes.
“The warm, nurturing atmosphere and reputation as a family-oriented school is what attracted me to Cameron Vale School and The Chelsea Nursery, where from a young age we make it our priority to foster a joy of reading. We firmly believe that reading is the best foundation for future learning, and reinforce this by providing numerous opportunities for the children to delve into a book including age-specific libraries and book corners in each classroom.”
